Each breed of cat has its own written standard, describing in detail the
ideal, fully developed (mature) cat of that particular breed. Breeders strive to produce kittens that when fully developed will comply as closely as possible to this ideal. At shows judges compare each cat within a breed to that particular standard and the one most closely meeting the requirements will be the winner. Where different breeds are involved in a judge-off, cats are not judged against each other but are compared to their own breed standard and once again the cat that complies most closely with the description with the ideal or it's particular breed is the one that will win.
